Emily’s voice is described as angelic and pure with the aural feel of caramel. Her improvisation is heavily influenced by Ella Fitzgerald and other scat-singers but also exposes her love of horn players.

Her natural ear, feel and creativity through improvisation have gained appreciation from her audiences, teachers and colleagues.

Emily has a distinctive emotional connection to the lyric and delivers her singing with great diction and conviction. Emily has a Performer’s Diploma in Music (PDM Jazz) from the University of Cape Town, with Distinction in Jazz Singing and Improvisation. She is currently completing her BMus Honours in Jazz Performance. Since 1998 Emily Bruce has performed with top bands and musicians such as Alvin Dyers, Hilton Schilder, Jack van Poll, Wayne Bosch, Mark Fransman, Andre Petersen, Buddy Wells, Kesivan Naidoo, Tony Schilder, Mike Perry, Winston Mankunku Ngozi, Darryl Andrews, Dave Ledbetter, Andrew Lilley, Mike Campbell and the UCT Big Band, Clement Benny, Breakfast Included, Goldfish, Free Quincy, Nukphonik, B3, Strait & Narro and others. She has worked the circuit in Dubai and Turkey and has experience in session and recording work.

Her debut album, ‘This Love We Share’, is available from Musica and her second album, a live recording from her 30th birthday concert is due for release in 2012.
