Cape Town-based saxophonist, Dan Shout is a graduate of UCT’s South African College of Music with a Master’s degree in Jazz Performance.

Whilst studying, Dan gained experience performing with Five of a Kind, The UCT Big Band, the Mike Campbell Big Band, the Cape Town Jazz Orchestra, Mike McCullagh, The Darryl Andrews Band, VJR Big Band and Golliwog. Together with Paul Sedres, he also presented a weekly jazz radio show on Fine Music Radio called The Inner Circle. A member of the prestigious Standard Bank South African National Youth Band from 2001 – 2004, Dan has toured South Africa and abroad extensively. He has also performed and recorded with South Africa’s best House acts, including Dino Moran, Shaun Duvet, DJ Fresh, Roger Goode and Deal Fuel.

Dan’s versatility across genres is evident in his ongoing performances with his own jazz quartet, D.S.Q.; lounge act, Magic Carpet Ride; swing band, the Hotshots; reggae/ska legends, The Rudimentals and 7th Son; rock group, Hog Hoggidy Hog; The Restless Natives and The Clearing. Dan is currently the saxophonist for South Africa’s international World Music icon, freedom fighter and apartheid activist, Johnny Clegg.
